Prayer to Saint Clare
Inspired by a sermon by Saint Francis in the early 13th century, St. Clare ran away from home on Palm Sunday to live her life for the church. St. Francis placed her in the Benedictine convent. In 1215 Francis placed her in charge of the convent at St. Daminao where she remained superior for forty years. Clare founded the Poor Clares an order of nuns who spoke only when necessary and vowed poverty. This Order grew throughout Italy and spread to France and Germany. During her life Clare was credited with many miracles and relied upon for consultation by cardinals, bishops and Popes. St. Clare is summoned for understanding and protection from evils. .
